Why film music?

Born in 1980, Aurélien soon became familiar with the new technologies of music as an extension of his creativity and the ability to extrapolate the seemingly small universe of piano lessons at the conservatory. The fascination grew with the evolution of technology and the discovery of composers like Eric Serra who, with the film Big Blue, produced an entire soundtrack based on synths and sounds of ocean animals, contributed to further exploration of these new techniques. Simultaneously, the passion for cinema and the realization of the importance of the role of music in the media directed is focused on the world of soundtracks and their composers, not forgetting the interconnection and lasting partnerships with great filmmakers (Bernard Herrmann & Alfred Hitchcock, John Williams & Steven Spielberg; Danny Elfman & Burton; Nino Rota & F. Fellini; Eric Serra & Luc Besson, among many others).

Aurélien Vieira Lino

Lisbon, Portugal

From 1990 to 1998, he studied piano at the Conservatory of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. In 1998 he joined the Musicology Course of the Universidade Nova of Lisbon.

In 2001 he was part of the first Jazz Course at the College of Music and Performance Arts of Porto (ESMAE), having completed a degree in jazz piano in 2005. Simultaneously, he was a jazz piano, harmony and orchestra class teacher at the Conservatory of Caldas da Rainha and Jazz School of Torres Vedras.

During this time, he directed various music workshops throughout the country in collaboration with conductor Adelino Mota and was a professor of group and jazz harmony at the Youth Summer Music School at Caldas da Rainha.

From 2007 to 2008 he studied in Paris with the renowned composer and pianist Antoine Hervé. 

In 2010 he becomes the managing director of the Conservatory of Caldas da Rainha, and producer / artistic director of Musicaldas Festival.

In 2012 he concluded a course on "Cultural Organizations and Project Management".

In 2014 he concludes the “Orchestration for Film and TV” course at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and later the “Interactive Scoring For Games”.

In cinema, he has worked on documentaries, films, and several award-winning short films as a composer (film and animation), Foley artist, sound designer, and sound mixer. It received several nominations as best song and best sound, distinguishing itself with the award for best song at the Southern Short Awards for Pip! an animated Short Film, a viral movie with over 500 million views.

In the area of ​​animation, he is involved with the studios Sardinha em Lata, Animanostra and Studio Kimchi, in the composition of original music and sound for films and series.

In the advertising area, he has in his portfolio clients such as Lisbon City Council, McDonald’s, Ted Ed, Siemens, Galp, Nutella Singapore, Mercedes, L’Oreal, Grupo Bensaude, among others.

He was also director of audio post-production for the production company Mau Mau Mia in 2021.

In parallel to the production linked to music and sound for image, he has worked as a musician and composer in the fields of jazz, electronics, rock/pop and classical music.

In the area of ​​performance and theater, he has participated in several projects as sound director and musician in projects by choreographer Nuno Lucas, including the play “Schwerkraft leicht gemacht” presented at the Purple Intenationales Tanzfestival festival in Berlin in 2019.
